REACT Review 2012ReAct

The Redbridge Environmental Action Plan (REACT) 2010 to 2018 is currently being reviewed. We are recording our progress towards our targets and producing an updated Action Plan that includes new priorities and actions.

Our progress so far:

Our draft new targets and Action Plan:

The proposed Action Plan will be considered by Cabinet in Spring 2013.

Redbridge Environmental Action Plan (REAct)

REAct is an environmental strategy for the Borough. It outlines how the Council and other key organisations, such as the Police, the Fire Brigade, NHS Redbridge and local community groups, intend to make Redbridge a cleaner, greener and more sustainable borough and tackle our biggest environmental challenge, climate change.

Every aspect of modern life, from the way we travel and the food we eat to the way we build our homes or run our businesses can have an impact on the environment, now and for future generations. Also, the global threat of climate change is likely to have local impacts here in Redbridge.

Two parts

REAct is divided into Part A and Part B.

Part A is the strategy, describing why and how Redbridge intends to maintain and improve its environment from 2010 to 2018. Part A describes the reasoning behind the five key areas and highlights the main targets and aspirations.

Part B is the Action Plan and lists the actions to be undertaken by the Council and our partners to help achieve the aims of the strategy.

One goal

REAct has a simple aim: to maintain and, where possible, improve the environment and to make sure that Redbridge meets the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

As a borough-wide strategy, it promotes joint and efficient working to ensure the environment remains a top priority in Redbridge.

Our Environmental Action Plan includes actions for many Council Departments and other key organisations in Redbridge. However, we cannot operate alone.

Responsibility for our environment lies with everyone who lives or works in the Borough and our residents have an important role to play.
