Scrutiny Reviews or 'working groups'

Scrutiny Reviews are time-limited investigations into chosen topics. These can be for a short or long period depending on the subject matter and depth of the investigation.

They are established by the Overview Committee who will consider the outcome of any working group deliberations.

A small working group of Councillors will be selected to undertake the review and a time will be allocated in order to report findings back to the Overview Committee.

Working groups add significantly to the Committee’s ability to scrutinise particular policy or service areas and to make an impact on the performance of local services.

Wherever possible members of public and community and voluntary groups will be consulted for their input into this work.

The working group reports its findings to the Overview Committee and that Committee will closely monitor any recommendations made to Cabinet or other relevant organisations.

For details of scrutiny reviews (including PDF reports of completed reviews) see the links below:

They include information on the subject matter, purpose of the review, duration and, where necessary, any input required from the public.
