The Mayor's Appeal
As well as performing civic duties, the Mayor will select a
national or local charity to support during their year of office.
The Mayor's Appeal Committee will raise money by organising a wide
range of events, functions and activities. All money raised goes
direct to the Mayor's chosen charity at the end of the Mayoral
year.
The Mayor's Appeal charities for 2011/12 are:
- The
Multiple Sclerosis Society (Redbridge Branch)
I just thought this was a very deserving charity which, after
speaking to a few people about the work the centre does, felt like
this was the right choice.
- Newbridge School
I chose
Newbridge School because they have a specific aim of buying a new
mini bus for the pupils which their annual fundraising activities
just will not cover.
Quote from Newbridge School
‘We the Parents and Friends Association of Newbridge School are
extremely delighted to have been chosen as one of the Mayor’s two
selected charities. It is marvellous that a lesser- known charity
like ourselves has the opportunity to achieve its goals with help
of such a high profile office. Our PFA continually strives to raise
money for the benefit of the pupils to add to the quality of their
lives. The Mayor’s appeal 2011-2012 will help bring the dream of a
minibus closer to reality’.
