Biography of Redbridge Mayor Councillor Muhammed
Javed
Cllr Muhammed Javed is a Member for Clementswood
Ward and was elected to Redbridge Council in May 1982, after
completing years of voluntary work in the community.
Borne out of personal experience, he joined politics; such was
the experience that he made housing his special subject of
interest.
Muhammed was Elected Mayor for the municipal year 2012/13 on
Thursday, 10 May 2012
Council
Over 30 years of front line politics Muhammed has held many
senior positions in the Council and has served on most of the
Committees of Redbridge Council including at London level. He has
been Vice Chair of the ALG Social Services and Housing Committee;
in the 80s played major contributions in developing London wide
policy on the temporary accommodation.
He was Deputy Leader of the Council in 1994, Leader of the
Opposition in 1999 and Leader of the Council in June 2000.
Hobbies/interests
Muhammed is a family man with four children, and
three lovely grand children, one boy aged 12 and two girls
aged 8 and 3. He enjoys walking, likes Jazz and
classical music. Being a true public servant, not only
does he work at another Authority and undertakes his Redbridge
Council duties, he does voluntary work at the weekends.
