Chief Executive and Senior Officers pay scales

The Chief Executive’s pay scale is set by a committee of councillors every 2 years on advice from an independent specialist. 

The actual salary for the Chief Executive post in Redbridge is £181,542. The chief executive also receives returning officer fees, which are small and vary year by year depending on what elections, by-elections are held (please see below).

  • As per the national conditions of service the Chief Executive contributes 7.5% of salary to the local government pension scheme and Redbridge’s employer contribution to the pension fund for all contributing members of staff is 23.1%
  • In some years the Chief Executive as Returning Officer also receives election fees when general, local or European elections take place.  This ranges up to a maximum of about £9,000
     
  • The Chief Executive chooses not to claim travel and sundry expenses, although like all officers he is entitled to claim.  He also chooses not to participate in the funded healthcare scheme
  • The lowest salary grade is Scale 1 representing approximately 5% of the workforce. The average salary level for Scale 1 is £15,368. Comparing this to the current salary of the highest paid council employee, the Chief Executive on a salary of £181,542, represents a ratio of approximately 1:12
  • The pay scales for the most senior officers of the Council, those who report directly to the Chief Executive and sit on the Management Board, range between £105,000 and £138,000 and cover 6 posts
  • As per the national conditions of service the Directors are able to contribute 7.5% of salary to the local government pension scheme and Redbridge’s employer contribution to the pension fund for all contributing members of staff is 23.1%.

All Directors are also eligible to receive, as part of their employment package, funded healthcare whose current financial value ranges approximately between £1,600 and £4,700 per annum.
