Help with using the interactive map

Moving around the map

If you have given us your postcode the house icon represents your location.

You can quickly move around the map by dragging with your mouse.

Alternatively you can use the Pan up, Pan down, Pan left and Pan right buttons located in the top left corner of the map.

You can also use the slider or the Zoom in and Zoom out buttons to alter the scale of the map.

Satellite, Hybrid and Terrain views

If you like, you can also access a satellite image of the viewed location. You can zoom in on this image for a closer look at the terrain, zoom out for a broader perspective, or pan in any direction.

If you simply can't decide between viewing maps or satellite imagery, you can choose the hybrid view, which superimposes map data, including streets, street names, and landmarks, over the satellite images.

To access these views, click the Satellite Hybrid or Terrain buttons in the top right corner of the map. Click the Map button to return to the normal map only view.

Searching the map

To find a particular location you can search for it.

  1. Enter a term in the search box above the map. This could be a building name, street, district or post code, in fact any part of an address.
  2. Click the Search button to perform the search.
  3. Click the required location on the list of matching addresses.  The map will centre on the selected location.

Displaying services

To the left of the main map you will find a Map layers side bar.  You can use this to display Redbridge based services and organisations on the map.

  1. Click the category of service you wish to display.
  2. The category will expand and display a list of service types.  Click the service type you wish to display.
  3. The selected services are displayed on the map and a new side bar listing these locations is also displayed.
  4. For more details about a particular location you can either click its place marker on the map, or click the corresponding entry on the side bar.
  5. To remove the additional side bar and clear all place markers from the map, click the Back to list button in the top right hand corner of the side bar.
