Redbridge Council gets Gold Award for carbon savings
Thanks to our significant efforts in reducing our carbon
emissions over the
last three years, Redbridge Council has achieved the Carbon
Saver Gold Award.
Redbridge Council was praised for its carbon management
policies and its actual reduction of emissions. We have
achieved a 5.1% reduction in our carbon footprint over the
last 3 years and (even more significantly) we have achieved an
average reduction of 9.2% per year.
Our carbon footprint
The emissions from our estate and operations can be found in the
Carbon Saver Assessment Report (which can be downloaded
below). This report covers part of Scope 1 and Scope 2
emissions under the guidance of the Greenhouse
Gas Protocol.
The bigger picture
- The UK Government requires local authorities to work out
the amount of greenhouse gases they emit each year and make
the information available to the public. This is to monitor
progress towards the UK’s environmental targets, in particular the
'carbon budget', which is a cap on the UK’s total greenhouse gas
emissions.
- Redbridge Council participates in the CRC Energy
Efficiency Scheme, the UK's mandatory carbon trading
scheme. The aim of the CRC is to reduce the carbon emissions
produced by larger organisations by approximately 1.2 million
tonnes of CO2 per year by 2020.
