About environmental health
Environmental Health is made up of a
number of services that aim to
protect
and improve the quality of life and the environment for the benefit
of everyone in Redbridge.
These services including food safety,
pollution management, pests and nuisance, animal welfare and public
health.
Most functions are statutory. Key
activities include:
- Investigation of public health
nuisances from commercial premises e.g. drainage, odours,
pests
- Monitoring, assessing and
controlling pollution of air, water and land (including
contaminated land)
- Environmental Impact Assessment
of development plans
- Controlling food safety in 1,400
food outlets in LBR, including registrations, licensing and
training for food handlers
- Working with the Health
Authority to prevent the spread of communicable
diseases
- Helping to maintain a safe
working environment in business premises by enforcing health and
safety legislation
- Working with the Department of
Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) to control animal
health.
