Regeneration team

North-East London is undergoing some of the most rapid and fundamental changes in recent years, with the arrival of the Olympics, Crossrail and changes in working practices and urban lifestyles.

Barkingside’s past success as a town centre does not guarantee its future prosperity. The Barkingside Town Centre Improvement Plan provides a clear vision for improvement in the town to encourage an attractive, functional and vibrant town centre for the coming years.

The vision includes:

  1. Improvements to the physical environment of Barkingside including the quality of the public realm and accessibility of the town centre
  2. Potential to change the use or redevelop key sites and buildings to attract better uses to the town centre, increase footfall, strengthen urban form and create a sense of place
  3. A general programme of initiatives and events that supports local community and business groups and helps raise Barkingside’s profile image and sense of identity

The Plan was produced by Studio REAL on behalf of Redbridge Council.
