How long does it take?
Planning is not a
quick process. We have to undertake certain steps, such as
giving the public an opportunity to comment on the scheme and we
also need to get advice or input from various local, regional
and national bodies such as English Heritage or the Environment
Agency.
Small applications - extensions, advertisements etc.
85% of householder applications are dealt with within 8
weeks, often less. By law, we are unable to make a
decision inside the first 3 weeks, this is to allow local
residents, councillors and businesses the opportunity to give
us feedback on the proposals.
Bearing this in mind, if you are the applicant please
don't chase a decision from us within this time
period.
As you would expect, simpler applications often require less
time. Equally, where an application was refused and we are
considering a resubmission following discussions with the
applicant a follow-up application can often take less
time to decide.
Larger applications
Due to their more complex nature, we are given up to 13
weeks to consider larger applications, we make every
effort to stick to these deadlines and in most cases succeed.
