Gants Hill
Gants Hill is a thriving district centre in the London Borough
of Redbridge, in the north-east of London, located
approximately 21 km (13 miles) north-east of London's West
End.
Well connected
- Gants Hill is a well-connected district centre situated at
a busy roundabout junction with the A12, connecting to the M11 and
onwards to the M25 motorways.
- The commercial hub of the town benefits from
excellent public transport, with a large number of
bus
routes and a London Underground Central Line station beneath
the roundabout, providing fast connection to central London.
- The town has recently benefited from a multi million
pound pedestrian streetscape enhancement scheme, a
joint venture with Transport for London, the Council and
delivery organisations.
Retail offer
- The town centre has a balanced mix of retail (including
Sainsburys and Tesco's), but it is its leisure activity that
the town centre is increasingly being noted for, with a popular
night club and a number of top quality restaurants and bars in
the town.
- Visit the Council's district shopping web site
for details of businesses located in Gants
Hill.
Leisure offer
- Valentines Park is located just
south of the district centre, providing Gants Hill with a
major recreational green open space and sporting facilities.
Education & earnings
- The population is statistically more qualified than the
Redbridge average.
- To the south west of the district centre a new primary school
and associated playing fields and sporting pitches have been
established.
- Gant Hill residents earn a little over the Redbridge average
household earnings.
Inward investment
- The Gants Hill District Centre
Area Action Plan (adopted May 2009) sets out the towns future
spatial strategy, ensuring that new development will be
delivered of high quality design and will contribute to
the character of the District Centre.
- The Planning service undertakes a health
check of its commercial centres, measuring a
number of key economic indicators that helps us to
identify areas of concern that may require
intervention.
Gants Hill District Centre Enhancement Scheme
- The Council and Transport for London successfully delivered a
£7.2m streetscape
scheme in October 2010, transforming the pedestrian
accessibility and appearance of the centre.
- The regeneration project included upgraded CCTV, widening of
lanes, improved lighting, signage, landscaping and attractive
outdoor areas for restaurants and bars.
- A commemorative plaque was unveiled by the Mayor of London to
mark the end of the project.
