Hazardous (asbestos, paint...)
Waste is hazardous when it has properties that might make it
harmful to
human health or the environment. The term 'hazardous'
does not always mean that such waste is immediately harmful, though
some can be. Hazardous waste should never be put in your
bin. You must always dispose of it properly.
If you are unsure as to whether something is hazardous
or not, then please contact the
Environmental Agency.
Hazardous waste usually includes the following
- asbestos
- batteries and discarded electrical equipment such as TVs and
computer monitors, fridges and freezers
- chemicals and pesticides
- fluorescent tubes
- medical/clinical waste
- oils and paints
Asbestos
If you need to dispose of asbestos you can arrange for it to be
collected by the
Corporation of London. For further information about
asbestos please visit the
