Frequently asked questions (Garden waste)
Why do collections get missed?
We do on occasion miss collections and here are the main reasons
as to
why they are
missed:
- high demand which means there is not enough time to collect all
of the waste planned for that day
- bags are hidden behind walls and cars which means we don't see
them so we cant pick them up
- bags containing a mix of both garden and non garden waste
- Bags are tied at the top, so crews think they are refuse
What we are doing to prevent missed collections
- use the 'Big Green bags'
- we have employed extra staff
- often we work overtime
- work more days
If we do happen to miss your collection, then you can
either:
- go to the Chigwell Road Recycling Centre
- or to a sunday garden waste collection point
If you can't do any of the above then please store your garden
waste until we come around the next week to collect it. If you have
continuous problems with missed garden waste, call the customer
contact centre on 0208 554 5000.
About the 'Big Green Bag'
The ‘Big Green Bag’ holds up to four times as much as a normal
plastic sack, holds its shape and is robust enough to withstand
tears from twigs and thorns.
The bags will make it quicker and easier for collection crews to
empty as they save numerous trips to the vehicle, they don't need
to be untied and they don't split open.
All the improvements offered by the ‘Big Green Bag’ should make
life easier for you and our crews, resulting in a better service
than ever before.
How can I get a green bag?
We are currently out of stock of green garden waste bags, but
please visit our green garden
waste page in the New Year for details of how to get one next
time.
What happens if I have too much garden waste for the big green
bag?
You may use bin liners, however please keep them untied and
outside your property in the same way as described above.
How shall I leave green waste outside my property?
Typically you should leave your green waste in the same place as
you leave your normal rubbish. Usually this is within the
boundary of your property where it is visible from the
street. So please don't leave it in the back garden or behind
your car. Please remember that its illegal to
leave waste on the road or the pavement.
