Trade waste agreements
All businesses are required by law to have waste produced at
their premises removed by a recognised trade waste carrier.
The Council is a recognised waste carrier. If you would like
us to dispose of the waste from your business then you will need to
contact us.
Over 2,000 businesses in the borough are provided
with a first class and legal method of disposing of commercial
waste at very competitive prices.
You have to have a Trade Waste Agreement with the
Council for us to collect your trade waste.
What if I don't want a Trade Waste Agreement?
A Trade Waste Agreement is compulsory by law. So you
have to have one. The Environmental Protection Act 1990
places duties on persons who produce waste from any kind of
business. This includes shops, restaurants and
takeaways.
If you ask someone else to get rid of your waste, you must make
sure that the person is:
- from a local authority
- or from a licensed waste collection company
How do I get a Trade Waste Agreement?
You will need to contact the Commercial Waste team on 020 8708
5113. We will then talk about your waste collection, what
your needs are and how we can cater for them. Once this has
been agreed we will send you a contract and a duty of care which
you will need to sign and return to us. Once we have received
your forms we will aim to get your collection started as soon as
possible.
Payment
As part of your contract we will quote you the yearly amount
that you will need to pay for us to collect your rubbish. We
will then require five monthly payments followed by the remainder
of the balance. Or you can choose to pay the full amount when
you receive your first invoice. The payment will include any
bin hire and VAT.
Is this included in my business rates?
No. Your business rates do not cover the collection of
your business waste.
Your duty as a business
It is your duty as a person who produces, keeps or disposes of
controlled waste to prevent the escape of waste from your
control. This means that you must package the waste in
suitable containers so that it cannot escape or blow
about.
You must make sure that any unauthorised person cannot remove
the waste. This means by vandals or thieves. You
must also secure your waste against animals, accident or the
weather.
What if I want to amend or cancel my Trade Waste
Agreement?
If you want to amend your agreement then call us on 020 8708
5113 to do so.
If you want to end your Trade Waste Agreement you need to tell
us in writing. In your letter please confirm your name,
business name and address. And state that you wish to cancel your
agreement and the date in which you want it to end.
You must give us at least one months notice.
You don't need to send us back your contract.
You can then send this letter to: Cleansing and Direct
Services, Ley Street Depot, Ley Street, Ilford, Essex, IG2 7QZ.
Once we receive your letter, we will arrange for your collection
to be cancelled.
