Drop kerb frequently asked questions
How much does it cost?
The price of the footway crossing depends on the dimensions.
These dimensions will not be worked out until the site is
visited.
What happens next?
Once we have received your application form and payment has
cleared a Council engineer will come to inspect the
site. They will measure and mark out the area according
to the dimensions on your form. If the engineer can
not approve the driveway as per your plan, they will work
out the closest or best match, or they may have to reject
your application. You will be informed of the reason why your
application has been rejected and you will have the opportunity to
appeal against the decision.
Within one week of the inspection you will receive a
quotation in the post. You then have the option whether to go
ahead or not. If you decide to go ahead you will need to pay
the whole quotation amount.
Once full payment has been received by us and it has
cleared, works are planned to start in six to eight
weeks by the Council's contactors. You will be notified
the day before our contractor starts work on the crossing,
they will deliver barriers which can be placed in the road to
ensure the way is clear for the construction works. You will not be
able to drive your vehicle over the completed crossing for 24
hours.
The payment can be by cheque, made payable to the London Borough
of Redbridge and sent to the Chief Highways & Cleansing
Services Officer or by credit/debit card by contacting the Customer
Contact Centre on 020 8708 5000.
What if I have any problems with the works that have been
carried out?
You will need to let us know by contacting the Customer Centre Centre.
Do we do offer discounts for elderly and or disabled people?
No, discounts are not available for elderly or disabled
people, however you may be able to receive assistance by
seeking advice on welfare
benefits. You may also be able to apply for a
disabled bay.
