Footway crossings drop kerb
A footway crossing (drop kerb or dropped kerb) is where the
pavement gets lowered so that you can drive onto your driveway or
front garden.
Please note that we do not construct
your driveway or front garden. We provide the footway
crossing only.
Before you apply you must check each of the following three
things:
1. You may need planning permission
First of all you must check to see if the road
you live on is on the
property list (PDF 38kb)
2. Is there a tree or street light in the way?
If there is a tree or street light in the way please show this
on the form. We will then inspect and see whether the tree or
street light can be moved or not.
3. Your driveway/front garden should
be porous
There is somewhere for rain water to drain from your driveway
(and not onto the pavement or highway). Your
driveway/front garden needs to be constructed of materials that
can absorb - be 'porous' or divert water. Here are some
examples:
- flowerbeds
- grass verges
- gravel
- chippings
If your front garden does not have any of the above
then this could result in the refusal of the footway
crossing. If you are unsure you can contact the Customer Contact Centre.
