Home Street cleaning

Road sweeper busy at work Street cleansing is the removal of dirt, mud, litter, grease and debris, and leaf fall from adopted highways. It includes the removal of litter from verges and footpaths alongside Council adopted highways and cleaning pavements. Every road in Redbridge is serviced at least once a week.

When do you clean my street?

As a general rule of thumb, we clean your street the day after your refuse collection.  However there are exceptions to this where areas are usually cleaned everyday such as:

  • High roads
  • Schools
  • Major shopping parades

Cleaning estates and private roads

If an estate or development has been adopted by the Council then we will clean these too. These are also cleaned once a week.

If the streets are private then we do not clean them.  It is the responsibility of the developer or managing agent.

Roads we don't clean so often

TfL manage the following trunk roads.  This means that although we are responsible for any litter or detritus on these roads we have to apply to TfL to get this removed.  We don't service these routes very often as to do so we will have to close lanes which has a huge impact on traffic.

  • A12 Eastern Avenue
  • A1400 Woodford Avenue
  • A406 Barking Relief Road

What you can do to help keep your street clean

Please use litter bins provided or take it home with you.

  • Educate family members about the importance of not dropping litter.
  • Avoiding over filling refuse or recycling containers.
  • Don't throw litter from your car
