Dog microchipping
The Council offers a micro chipping service for dogs
where come round to
you and microchip your dog.
Please note that this service is
strictly only for dogs! Unfortunately we are
unable to microchip any other animal including cats,
reptiles, rodents and birds. If you want those
microchipped you will need to contact a vet.
Free dog microchipping for the month of
June only. (Normally £5)
How does the chip work and where it is injected?
The chip is the size of a grain of rice. It has a
unique 16 digit number that gets implanted just under the
dogs skin (between the skin and the muscle) via an injection.
It is usually injected in between the shoulder blades.
What happens if my dog gets lost?
If your dog gets found by or taken to a vet it will be
scanned. The microchip will be found and they will be able to
access your contact details via the id number on the chip.
Only authorised people can scan your chip.
Is it safe for my dog?
Yes its completely safe for your dog and it should last the
lifetime of your dog.
How old should my dog be?
We recommend that you get your dog chipped anytime after its
eight weeks old.
What if I move or change address?
If you or your dog moves then you must let the chip company
know so they can update the dog's details. You will be given
your chip provider's details when we come and microchip your
dog.

What happens next
Once we have your details we will pass them on to our dog warden
who will call you within one working day. The warden will
discuss with you a suitable date and time to visit your home to
microchip your dog.
The warden visit usually takes around 30 minutes. During
this time the warden will inject your dog with a microchip and give
you any further advice that you need.
Your dogs details are stored on a world wide database should
your dog be lost its owner details can be obtained once scanned by
authorised people.
The warden is also happy and keen to give you any advice on
looking after your dog.

the dog warden when they come round. You will be given a

Please ensure you have the correct money before the warden comes
