Council presents awards to green businesses
7 September 2011
Press release number:PR1540
As part of a pilot scheme seven businesses from Hainault have
received awards from the Council for their environmental
efforts.
They each picked up a Redbridge Green Business Award at a
special business networking event at Hainault Businesses Park on
Thursday 25 August.
The awards are being piloted by the Council at the business park
and recognise and promote businesses that are operating in an
environmentally sustainable manner. They are a clear and easy
way for local businesses to show their commitment to sustainability
to their customers.
Positive impact on the Borough
They were presented by Councillor Shoaib Patel, Cabinet Member
for the Environment and Community Safety, who said, “Through this
initial pilot of the Redbridge Green Business Awards, the Council
recognises businesses that are forward-looking and making
significant changes to the way they work. We are making sure
that potential customers recognise them too.
“Many of their achievements reach beyond the boundaries of the
workplace and have a positive impact on the entire Borough.”
The awards break down into three categories; Gold, Silver and
Bronze, with businesses required to show an increasing level of
action and dedication to receive the higher awards.
Gold Award
One business, RGE Services Limited, took home a Gold Award,
demonstrating considerable commitment to sustainability by
introducing hybrid and electric vehicles, solar PV technology,
sustainable procurement and an environmental management system.
Through investment and innovation, this business has achieved
significant environmental improvements within and beyond the
workplace.
R.B. Services Group received a Silver Award for integrating
sustainability into the way they work and making a number of
changes that save energy, water and fuel and reduce waste.
Five further businesses received a Bronze Award for their
commitment to sustainable business: Hynedale t/a Noble Sleek, Lodge
Group Care UK (Cameron House), Starna Scientific Limited, MotorAid
Limited and Lovelock and Taylour.
Free support
As part of the scheme, the Council is offering free support to
help small and medium sized enterprises on the business park become
more sustainable, a move that often brings financial benefits.
