Thousands join Olympic countdown at Inspiration 10
28 July 2010
Press release number:PR1096
More than 3000 residents helped celebrate the countdown to the
2012 Games at Inspiration 10 on Sunday 25 July.
The family fun day in Valentines Park offered a variety of
sports and culture activities including music and dance acts, dhol
drumming, circus workshops, outdoor gym tutorials and come and try
sports sessions.
Among the activities was the bunting challenge where residents
were asked to join Redbridge Council’s bid to create the world’s
longest line of bunting by 2012. Community groups and schools
have also joined the challenge, with more than 1000 people adding
their contribution since the start of the project in June.
Cllr Nolan, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said, “It was lovely to
see so many people taking part in activities and trying out new
things. The Open Weekend is our opportunity to celebrate the
countdown of the Olympics by challenging ourselves and it was good
to see people getting involved.”
Inspiration 10 was part of the London 2012 Open Weekend, 23 - 25
July 2010. Now in its third year, Open Weekend has enabled
over a million people to take part in sport, arts and cultural
events across the UK.
As part of the four year Cultural Olympiad programme, Open
Weekend is one of several projects aimed at adding excitement
leading up to the 2012 Games and helping to create a lasting
legacy.
