Home End of national free swimming scheme

28 July 2010

Press release number:

The national scheme offering free swimming to residents aged 60 and over and 16 and under comes to an end on 31 July.

The Government has announced it will be discontinuing the initiative as part of wide ranging cost saving measures.

This will mean all residents who benefited from the initiative will need to pay for their swims from 1 August.

Unfortunately in the current climate the Council is unable to fund the initiative directly as it would cost in the region of £200k a year to do this.
