Choose a greener way to travel
15 July 2010
Press release number: PR1071
This summer, why not
leave the car keys at home, get on your bike, or let your legs do
the walking?
It’s a great way to enjoy the sunshine and save money.
Walking, cycling or using public transport instead of driving also
reduces our CO2 emissions and helps the environment.
There are many great walks in Redbridge and the surrounding
area. To plan a walk, visit www.walkit.com. It will tell you
the distance, the time it will take and even how many calories you
will burn off!
For more information on green travel visit our
Redbridge i environment pages.
Be a green traveller
When you can’t leave the car at home, be a green driver to save
money by using less petrol and reducing maintenance costs.
Efficient driving also lowers the carbon emissions which helps the
environment.
Some simple tips to run your vehicle efficiently and save
on C02 emissions:
- Check tyre pressures regularly, particularly before long
journeys
- Get rid of extra weight by removing roof racks and emptying
your boot
- Service your vehicle regularly
- Driving at the legal limit or lower also saves
fuel. Driving at 70mph instead of 80mph can cut fuel
bills by 10 per cent
- Don’t rev your engine
Planning your summer holiday or days out?
Why not take the train or boat instead of a plane or car
trip?
