Borrow an item

You need a library card to borrow items from a library including books, DVDs, CDs, eBooks and Audio books.  You can get a library card here.   When going online please make sure you have your library card and pin number.  Our online services are run by external organisations.

First time users of eBooks will be able to download free special software if required.

Borrowing books is free. There are charges for some other services.

At any one time, the maximum you can borrow is:

  • 12 Books up to three weeks
  • 5 eBooks up to three weeks
  • 4 DVDs up to one week
  • 2 DVDs for children up to one week
  • 8 Music CDs up to three weeks
  • 8 Audio Book sets up to three weeks 
  • 4 Children's Audio Book sets up to three weeks

If you would like to borrow an item for longer please ask at your local library as you can, for example borrow a book for up to 6 weeks if you're going on holiday.

You must return an item back before its renewal date.  If you don't, you will be fined
Set an email reminder on your account to be reminded when your items should be returned.

To continue to borrow you need to renew your library items within the timescales above.

If the item is not available you can either:

Reservation services are free. We will have the item(s) set aside for you at your local library when it becomes available and let you know that you can come and collect it.
