Summer Reading Challenge 2011

The Summer Reading Challenge 2011 in Redbridge was a record
breaking year, with more children taking part than ever before.
The Summer Reading Challenge is a free national summer
reading scheme and the theme this year was Circus Stars.
What happens?
In Redbridge and all over the country,
libraries used the common theme of circus stars
and held reading clubs, where children were rewarded with
prizes including certificates and medals for reading six
books.
Research shows that taking part in the challenge improves
children's confidence and social skills and sends them back to
school fired up and ready to learn.
Record breaking readers
A record breaking 4,100 children signed up in Redbridge inspired
by the theme of a group of children preparing for a performance in
a contemporary circus.
Children were also rewarded with 'Circus Mungler Trump' cards as
an added incentive.

Fifty lucky entrants were selected to attend a
fantastic celebration with a circus and magic theme at 6

Summer Reading Challenge 2012
Next year the Summer Reading Challenge will be an official
programme within the Cultural Olympiad London 2012 Festival. The
aim is for 1 million children to take part in the 2012 Summer
Reading Challenge across the country.
Look out for Summer Reading Challenge starting 16 July 2012 in
