The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics are almost here, so to help you count down the days until this historic event here are some important dates for your diary, some key milestones, and a few local highlights to look forward to.

When are the London 2012 Games?

The 2012 Olympic Games takes place between 27 July to 12 August 2012 and the Paralympic Games from 29 August to 9 September 2012 at a range of venues.

Most of these will be in the the new Olympic Park in Stratford, London, but other events will also take place in other venues in Earls Court, Wembley Stadium, Manchester, Coventry, Westminster, Wimbledon and Weymouth.

  • 100 Days to go until London 2012 Games - 28 April 2012
  • Olympic Torch relay starts (UK Wide) - 18 May 2012
  • 50 Days to Go until London 2012 Games - 7 June 2012
  • Fairlop Fair - 6 & 7 July 
  • Olympic Village Opens - 15th July 2012
  • Olympic Torch relay arrives in London - 21 July 2012
  • Olympic Torch in Redbridge - 22 July 2012
  • Olympic football starts - 25 July 2012
  • Opening Ceremony - 27 July 2012
  • Closing Ceremony - 12 August 2012
  • Paralympics: Opening Ceremony - 29 August 2012
  • Paralympics: Closing Ceremony - 9 September 2012.
  • Well Done Team GB Parade
