Information & Heritage Service
In April and May 2012 when Ilford Central
Library will be closed for essential building work. During this
time , Information Heritage Team ( former Local Studies
and Archives) will be visiting all the branch libraries in
the Borough to provide a local service in your own area. Please see

The local studies and archive department provides a
service for local and family history research. It holds the largest
collection of materials in the Borough on the history of Ilford,
Wanstead, Woodford and Redbridge.
These materials include:
- Periodicals
- Census information
- Maps
- Local newspapers
- Periodicals
- Military resources
- Family History
We also have a general collection of books on the history of
Essex and the surrounding London boroughs including maps, periodicals and local newspapers.
Materials from the Archive Service are available by
appointment.

Discover the history on your doorstep, courtesy of Local Studies
and Archives. Download a copy of the Aldborough
Walk map (pdf 1004 kb) and take a 60-70 minute stroll from
Barkingside to Ilford War Memorial via historic sites.
