Home Newly qualified teachers (NQT)

On behalf of the primary and secondary schools in Redbridge, the Teacher Recruitment and Retention Service operates a general application procedure for newly qualified teachers (NQT) .

Although some (NQT) posts may be in shorter supply than in previous years, we endeavour to provide an effective system to help you secure your first teaching appointment.

Upon receipt, your application is reviewed, photocopied and reduced (please ensure legibility), and your references are taken up.

Primary

Recruitment Days will be organised for primary newly qualified teachers, when general interviews will be held by teams of headteachers and senior staff. We intend to hold recruitment interviews in March, April and May. It is regretfully not possible to interview all our applicants, so an early application is advised.

Candidates who are successful at interview are placed upon a recommended list and their details then circulated to schools as the  NQT vacancies arise throughout the academic year.

Although we would like to meet you in person, even if you do not receive an interview offer, your details will still be made available to all schools seeking to fill NQT vacancies as the need arises.

Secondary

We are no longer accepting central application forms for secondary teachers.

We now operate an email alert system for Newly Qualified Teachers. We will email you with a link to a job advert when a school is advertising a vacancy in your subject area. This will enable you to submit a general application along with a tailored supporting statement directly to the advertising School.

Further guidance on completing the application form can be found below. Please also use your university careers service or tutors to help you improve the quality of your teaching application.

If you wish to receive email alerts, please email Lorna Baker, Lorna.Baker@redbridge.gov.uk, with your contact details, your subject area and the name of your ITT provider.
