Who we work with
Under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004, the
Council works with its external partners to ensure that our
emergency plans are joined up with the plans of other agencies.
We attend joint training events and conduct
regular exercises to ensure that we test our plans and then update
them with the outcomes and lessons learnt from the exercises.
The Civil Contingencies Act classifies the external partners
with whom we work as Category 1 or a Category 2
responders.
Category 1 responders:
- Other Local Authorities
- The Metropolitan Police Service
- British Transport Police (BTP)
- London Fire Brigade
- London Ambulance service
- National Health Service (NHS)
- Health Protection Agency (HPA)
- Environment Agency (EA).
Category 2 responders:
- Electricity distributors and transmitters
- Gas distributors
- Water and sewage undertakers
- Telephone service providers, fixed and mobile
- Railway operators
- The Highways Agency
- The Health and Safety Executive (HSE), and
- Strategic Health Authorities (SHAs).
Other co-operating bodies:
- Regional Resilience Teams (RRTs)
- The Voluntary sector
- The Armed forces.
