Volunteer with us and help young and vulnerable people
Who are we / who is the service for?
We work with young people whose criminal activity has brought
them into contact with the Police or the Courts.
All our work is statutory, so the young people we work with will
be:
- on final warnings / court orders
- on bail or in custody.
We aim to:
- Confront the attitudes and behaviour of those
young people who commit offences.
- Provide them and their families with support
and constructive ways of avoiding further involvement in
crime.
- Help victims of youth crime and make sure
their needs and wishes are taken into account.
We use a number of approaches including:
- Working in groups and with individual young
people, and their families, using approved programmes, which have
been shown to be successful.
- Arranging for offenders to make reparation to
their victims, or carry out unpaid work to benefit the local
community.
- Trying to improve the health, literacy,
self-esteem and employability of young people - all factors which,
have been proved to reduce the likelihood of further
offending.
- We continually assess and monitor risk to the
public, and all our work is evaluated to make sure that we are
achieving our goals.
What happens next?
We are a multi-agency team.
- Police officers
- youth workers
- social workers health and education specialists all work
together to provide a "seamless service".
- We provide pre-sentence reports and bail support programmes to
assist the local Courts, with which we have a close working
relationship.
