What is the Blue Badge scheme?
The Blue Badge scheme provides parking concessions for
people with severe walking difficulties so that they can leave
their vehicles close to shops or other places they need to
visit.
Who can get a Blue Badge? 
The scheme is open to Redbridge residents who are:
- registered blind
- receiving the higher rate mobility
component of disability living allowance
- receiving a War Pensioners’ Mobility
Supplement or Armed Forces Compensation Scheme
- unable to walk or have considerable
difficulty walking due to permanent and substantial
disability
- have a congenital disability affecting
both arms
- is a child under the age of two with a
medical condition requiring bulky medical equipment or immediate
access to a vehicle for treatment
How do I apply for a Blue Badge?
What information do I need to supply?
Please read the application form and
provide all necessary documentation relevant
to your application:
- two recent passport size photographs with name signed and
printed on the back of each photo
- proof of address
- confirmation of identity
- evidence of higher rate of mobility component of Disability
Living Allowance, War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement or Armed
Forces Compensation Scheme (if applicable)
- organisational applicants require a copy of their log book and
organisational logo (if applicable)
Payment details
A fee of £10 is payable when
collecting the Blue Badge.
What happens next?
Once the application form has been submitted, you need
to allow 15 working days for it to be processed. You
will be informed in writing when your badge is ready or if you do
not qualify for a badge.
How do I renew my Blue Badge?
A Blue Badge application form must be completed
to renew your badge and sent at least one month
before the expiry date on your badge.
You can apply to renew a badge online at
Directgov.
When collecting your new badge you must bring with you your
previous clock and badge otherwise you will not be issued
with your new badge.
Is my badge transferable between vehicles?
Blue Badges can only be issued to those who are eligible and are
not given to relatives or carers. They can be used in any car the
badge holder is driving or in which he or she is a
passenger.
It is an offence under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to
display a badge on a vehicle when it is not being used to transport
the badge holder. You could be faced with
a fine of up to £1,000.
