Getting a grant
The Grants and Financial Assistance Team
can help you with repairs and adaptations to your home. We
may be able to help you (depending on available budgets) either by
offering an interest free secured loan or a grant to carry out the
work. The following forms of assistance are available:
- Interest free secured loan - help with paying for urgent
repairs to your home. More information is available in our
Loans
Leaflet (pdf 115kb). (Telephone: 020 8708 4707)
- Emergency Repairs Grant - help with repairs where the condition
of your home is preventing you being released from hospital or is
an immediate risk to your health. (Telephone: 020 8708 4707)
- Disabled Facilities Grant – help with adapting your home to
make it easier for you to continue living there. An initial
assessment will be carried out by an Occupational Therapist.
(Telephone: 020 8708 7333)
- Empty Property Grants – help with renovating homes that have
been empty for more than 2 years and making them available for
rent.
Please note we are unable to give any form of
assistance for extensions to living space.
The following information and guidance is also
available in our Contractors'
Guide (pdf 49kb).
Who is eligible for a grant?
In order to be eligible for an interest free secured loan you
must have lived in your home for at least the last 3 years.
Most forms of assistance we can offer are currently means
tested. We do not have any discretion as to how these means
tests are carried out, and even if you are on a moderate income you
may have a contribution to make.
Disabled Facilities Grant
If you are registered or registerable disabled
and if you own your home or rent privately from a landlord, you may
be able to apply for a disabled facilities grant. The
disabled person must firstly be assessed by an Occupational
Therapist.
For more information please contact:
Community Care Advice Centre, Aldborough Road
North, Newbury Park, IG2 7SR or telephone 020 8708 7333.
What kind of works can you get a grant for ?
- stairlifts
- access into and out of your home
- bathroom adaptations
- ground floor facilities inc. extensions
- accessible kitchens
- through floor lifts
- lighting, heating and power
- safety of the occupant
- access to gardens
Using Advisors/Agency Services
If you feel you are unable to deal
with getting the works carried out yourself, it is recommended that
you seek professional support from either the Home Improvement
Agency or a qualified surveyor/architect who may be able to assist
with and oversee all aspects of your application including the
supervision of builders.
It should be noted, that whilst the
Council will ensure that the aims and objectives of the grant are
met, inspections carried out by staff of the authority are not
undertaken on your behalf and therefore the appointment of
professional advisors will ensure that the standards that you
require are met.
Any reasonable fees incurred for the appointment of advisors can
be considered as part of the grant.
Apply for the grant ?
You must first be assessed by a Redbridge
