Housing Association was also known as a Registered Social Landlords (RSL). However both terms have now been replaced and are now referred to as Registered Providers (RPs).

RPs work closely with the council, and are able to access funding to build new homes from the Government's funding arm, the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA). 

RSLs also manage their properties once they have been built and are involved in a wide range of community-based and regeneration activities.

  Tenancy strategy 2013

  Under the Localism Act 2011, all local authorities have a duty to produce a Tenancy Strategy. 

  The purpose of the Tenancy Strategy is to make recommendations to registered providers of social housing in the following areas;

  • the kinds of tenancies they grant
  • the circumstances in which they will grant a tenancy of a particular kind
  • the length of tenancy terms for fixed-term tenancies
  • criteria for re-issuing tenancies at the end of a fixed term

  The Redbridge Tenancy Strategy came into effect on 15th January 2013, following a consultation with key stakeholders.
