Places of Change
Places of Change are centres of engagement and empowerment for
homeless and vulnerable
people.
They focus on activity, employment, health, education or
training.
The Redbridge Places of Change Partnership was successful in
winning £2 million of capital funding from the Government’s Places
of Change programme in March 2008.
Partnership arrangements are between the Housing Service,
Redbridge Night Shelter, Welcome Centre Project, NHS Redbridge,
service users, Supporting People, and Registered Providers
Look Ahead and Centrepoint (in partnership with Broadway).
Registered Providers were formerly known as housing
associations.
The Partnership is supported by Homeless Link and East London Housing Partnership.
Related information
The Partnership’s Vision is to provide accommodation and
facilities for people sleeping rough and single homeless people
with support needs.
Redbridge Night Shelter currently provides 18 bed spaces in
dormitory style accommodation but is usually full as no further
supported accommodation currently exists in Redbridge and
resettlement work is therefore severely limited.
The Places of Change Partnership will transform the
accommodation and services for single homeless people in Redbridge
by providing by 2010 a total of 38 purpose-built rooms
at 3 sites all linked to a range of support, health, training
and employment services.
Plans are to re-model and refurbish the
Redbridge Night Shelter at 16 York Road, Ilford and to build a new
Welcome Centre at 11 Green Lane, Ilford (see artist’s impressions
on the right), developed in consultation with all stakeholders
including service users and the local community.
