Local Housing Allowance rates April 2012 to March 2013
The Local Housing Allowance (LHA) rates specify the
maximum housing benefit your tenant can
get.
There are two set rates for people living in
Redbridge. These two rates are known as Broad Rental Market
Areas (BRMA’s).
An independent body (known as 'The Rent Officer') sets the local
housing allowance rate each month.
Check here for more information on Local
Housing Allowances
Please note that the month the Local Housing
Allowance starts is the amount payable each month for a year
(unless there is a change in circumstances).

How is the BRMA worked out?
The Rent Service will gather evidence of all the rents being
charged within each BRMA and will then set the Local Housing
Allowance rates for different sizes of property, according to the
number of bedrooms.
When are the above rates published?
The rates of Local Housing Allowance will be published each
month on our website so you will always know what the current rates
are.
What if my rent is less than the local housing allowance?
If your rent is less than the Local Housing Allowance rate that
applies to you you maybe entitled to up to £15 more.
Your maximum benefit will not be greater than your Local Housing
Allowance rate.
