Council Tax benefits, discounts and exemptions
The Council gives you three ways to benefit from a reduction in
your Council Tax.
You may benefit from one or more of them, however you would not
get both an 'Exemption' and 'Council Tax Benefits'.
Apply for Council benefits
Council Tax Benefit is where the Council pays some or all of
your Council Tax for you. How much the council pays depends
on your circumstances. Everyone has the right to apply but
that does not mean that everyone will be entitled to Council Tax
Benefit.

Reductions - Disabled person(s)
If you have a disabled person living in your property and there
is a room converted specifically to meet that disabled persons
needs then you may be entitled to a reduction in your Council
Tax. Such rooms include
- a room converted to meet the needs of a disabled person
- an extra bathroom or toilet
- doorways widened to accommodate wheelchair access
- extra space to meet special needs arising from a
disability.
The reduction that you get is a whole band. Which means if
your property is classed as a 'band C' it will be re-classed to a
'band B'. If it is already a 'band A' property then you will
not receive a reduction.
If you're unsure if you are able to apply for the reduction then
please contact us.
Whichever you get will be
discounted from your bill - you will not receive any
money.
