About equality and diversity
The London Borough of Redbridge (Redbridge Council) aims to
deliver services that meet the diverse needs of all of our
residents and encourage equality across the
Borough.
As a Council, we are required to meet certain duties
under the Equality Act 2010. We are therefore in the process
of developing a new Equality and
Diversity Strategy and Action Plan to fulfill those duties
and thereby enhance our practice in service delivery and employment
matters.
We have made a positive commitment to equality and diversity
by continuously working to ensure that our services
meet the needs of all of the Redbridge community.
We seek to fulfil the duties and
responsibilities that we have under the Equalities
legislation as well as strive to become 'Excellent' under
the Equalities
Framework for Local Government.
We believe that by mainstreaming equalities into all that we do
we will enhance the quality of our services and help to deliver
value for money.
We will work actively to reduce inequality with all our
customers and employees byensuring that they are treated:
- equitably
- without discrimination
- with dignity and respect,
regardless of their:
- age
- disability
- gender reassignment
- pregnancy and maternity
- race
- religion or belief
- sex and sexual orientation.
We as a Council have a legal duty to:
- Eliminate discrimination
- Promote equality of opportunity
- Promote good relations
We expect our employees and partners to respect and comply with
UK Government Legislation and Policies.
We expect organisations supplying goods or services on
behalf of Redbridge Council to comply with these duties.
