Tell Us Once
Redbridge Tell Us Once Service
When someone dies you will need to notify a number of
different government departments and local services about the death
usually providing them with the same information.
The Tell Us Once service will makes this process much
easier for you.
What is Tell Us Once?
With Tell Us Once, when someone has died in Redbridge, we can
help tell all the relevant people and organisations who
need to know on your behalf.
You will not even need to provide each organisation with a copy
of the death certificate.
Should a death occur outside of Redbridge you can still use the
Tell Us Once service, provided the Registrars office in the
area where the death took place is a local authority signed up
to the Tell Us Once programme.
How can I contact someone about the Tell Us Once service?
In person - if you would like to talk to one of
our advisors you can do so after you have registered the death.
Further information will be given to you when you ring to make
your appointment with the Registrar.
To book an appointment call our Registration Office on 020 8708 7123.
By telephone - The Department for Work and
Pensions on 0800 085 7308 after you have registered the death.
How can the service help you?
When someone dies, their death needs to be registered with
the Registrar.
With your permission we can give the information to the
Department for Work and Pension (DWP).
They will then pass the information onto a number of other
government departments and council services.
What information will
you need to give to us?
To make sure we pass on the right information to the DWP
and other organisations we contact on your behalf, we need the
following information about the person who has died:
- their National Insurance Number
- details of any benefits or services they were receiving
- their death certificate.
We may ask for information about:
- their next of kin
- any surviving husband/wife or civil partner
- anybody who is getting child benefit on their behalf
- the person dealing with their estate.
You must get the agreement of the people listed above if you are
going to provide us with information about them.
If you are not the next of kin, or the person dealing with the
deceased's estate, you can still use the service if you have
the authority to act on their behalf.
Please remember that it is still your responsibility
to make sure any organisation that pays a benefit has correct and
up-to-date information.
Who can we give information to?
We can contact the following government and local services for
you.
If you ask us to we can also contact the following local
services
- Adult Social Services
- Blue Badge
- Council Housing
- Council Tax
- Council Tax Benefit
- Electoral Services
- Freedom Pass
- Housing Benefits
- Library Service

How will we treat your information?
We will treat the information you give us securely.
The organisations we give your information to will use it to
update records; to end services; benefits and entitlement
as appropriate; and to resolve any outstanding
issues.
They may use the information we give them in other ways,
but only as the laws allows.
