About us
Hatton School is a primary aged special needs provision.

It admits children from the ages of three to 11 years, who
have a range of needs.
The school also provides support for children with Statements of
Special Educational Needs in over 50 mainstream primary
schools.
Specialist provision
For children whose needs lie across the autistic spectrum and
those children who have specific speech and language difficulties
and disorders.
Early interventions, including highly structured teaching
methods and therapies, are used within the provision.
The current range of interventions used may be:
- Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS)
- non directive interactive approaches
- Sherborne movement
- A structured environment to facilitate skill acquisition and
promote independent training
- social skills training and life skills programmes
- speech and language therapy
- Makaton signing
- TEACCH environment
- out and about in the community.
At all times children are offered links within the community and
with mainstream schools. Specific support is offered to the
children and their parents aiming towards a collaborative working
practice.
Learning difficulties provision
For children whose needs can be better met in a specialist
environment.
Outreach support service and agency
Works with children and staff within the mainstream primary
sector.
Specialist resources and facilities
The school offers a wide range of specialist resources which
enhance the educational experiences and opportunities
offered.
These include:
- school library
- school minibus
- cookery room
- purpose built gymnasium
- splash pool
- ball pool
- sensory room
- sensory garden
- large adventure playground
- spacious playing fields and playgrounds
- therapy room with observation panels
- language support rooms
- a range of ICT equipment
- we also provide mainstream staff with a range of specialist
training.
