Home schooling (elective home education)
Home schooling
Some parents do not want their children to attend a school and
choose to educate them at home.
The law allows parents to educate their children at home instead
of sending them to school, as long as they fulfil certain
conditions. We, as the local education authority, must be satisfied
that the child is being taught to a satisfactory standard.
Policy for home schooling
We have published guidelines on our policy for elective home
education.
This is for parents/carers who wish to take responsibility for
their child's education and educate them at home.
Additional information
This leaflet provides useful information for parents deciding to
withdraw their child from a school and home educate them
instead.
