The Redbridge No Knives, Better Lives campaign has now finished, but keep up to date on news and related events on our facebook page.

Why was the new campaign launched?

Following the huge success of the first ever knife crime awareness month in November 2009, the Council’s Targeted Youth Support Service decided to run the ‘No Knives, Better Lives’ campaign from Monday 28 February to Friday 8 April 2011, to all Year 9 pupils across the borough.

How young people got involved

Young people showed your support for the 'No Knives, Better Lives' campaign by signing a pledge not to carry knives.

Signing the pledge they received a black and white wristband to wear that showed support for the cause.

The wristband was handed out in schools while the drama was touring.

What happened this year?

Pupils in Year 9 watched the drama at school, called ‘Choice of a Lifetime’ during lesson time.  Lessons were taken over by a couple of very talented actors from the drama service, Nick and Daniel.

The play focused on a teenage boy, Justin, who gets involved with the wrong crowd and ends up stabbing another boy at his school.

Following the play, young people took part in a discussion based lesson, focusing on the consequences of carrying knives and looking at how the use of alcohol can affect decision making.
