This page relates to streets only in the London Borough of Redbridge for which a trader could apply for a pavement trading licence.

Trading from the pavement outside retail premises is illegal unless:

  • Street tradingyou own the land
  • have a licence.

A street trading licence is required if you wish to display goods in front of your shop on the public highway.

Licences will initially be issued for a 6-month period and thereafter upon renewal for a period of three years.

From 01 July 2005 the Council started granting licences for this activity in certain streets within the borough.

The issue of licences is subject to Council Policy also available below and initially they last for 6 months.

Types of goods

Licences will not be issued for the following goods:

  • New and used cars
  • New and used motorcycles
  • Second hand gas and electrical appliances
  • Second hand clothes · Pets and livestock
  • Containers of Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) including any which are part or fully discharged
  • Explosives including shop goods (fireworks)
  • Petroleum products including petroleum mixtures or solvent

Only street trading activities which promote Ilford and which are in accordance with the Council's existing street trading policy, will be prescribed in any street trading licence granted in respect of that part of the licence street situated in the area of the pedestrian precinct from 113-187 and 88-178 High Road, Ilford.
