Permits
The Gambling Act 2005 introduces a range of
permits for gambling. Permits are required when premises provide a
gambling facility but either the stakes and prizes are very low or
gambling is not the main function of the premises. The permits
regulate gambling and the use of gaming machines in a specific
premises.

Holders of alcohol-licensed premises gaming
machine permits and club permits will be required to comply with
codes
of practice (pdf 58KB), drawn up by the Gambling Commission on
the location and operation of machines. Information on this
code can be found on the Gambling Commission
website.
Takeaway food shops, taxi offices and other non-gambling
premises are not able to make gaming machines available for
use.
Duration of the permit and fees
The fees for various types of applications for different

The machine gaming permits issued by the Council, in general are
valid for ten years unless otherwise stated.
The permits are subject to an annual fee. Failure to pay the
annual fee may result in cancellation of the permit and any future
applications will be as a new operator.
