Emergency Planning
The Emergency Planning Team is a specific capability developed
within
the Council to respond to any major incident. The Borough
Emergency Control Centre (BECC) has state of the art technology and
is resilient to operate in the event of any borough wide
disruption. This means it is in a state of constant readiness
(24-7).
It's purpose is to provide a strategic base from which decisions
are co-ordinated and information collected. This will ensure that
informed decisions are made and that timely/ appropriate actions
are taken in order to:
- assist residents,
- reduce, control or mitigate the effects of the emergency,
- support the emergency services, and
- lead the recovery and return the situation to normality.
Council Major Incident Plan
The Emergency Planning Officer works with heads of council
services to ensure Redbridge is capable of responding effectively
to a major incident. Each service area has a role to play during an
emergency, in order to maintain critical services and respond to
the disaster at hand.
The council has a predetermined response plan framework,
Redbridge Major Incident Plan REDMIP (PDF 155KB), which it follows
to respond to and manage any major incident within the borough.
The council currently has a number of specific emergency
contingency plans it has developed which are constantly updated to
keep pace with the ever-changing environment. These contingencies
plans include:
- Flu Pandemic
- Flood Plan
- Site Clearance Plan
Risks to the North East London
The council in conjunction with our partners in North East
London have assessed the unique risks of our area. The partnership
consists of the London Boroughs of Redbridge, Havering, Barking and
Dagenham, Newham and Waltham Forest. Membership further includes
the local Emergency Services, Environment Agency, Health Services,
Coast Guard and the various utility and transport service
providers.
Risk assessments take place on a continual basis with updates
being made regularly. The North
East London Community Risk Register is a public document that
is published on our behalf by the London Fire Brigade-Emergency
Planning.
