The Council buys goods, works and services from a wide range of
suppliers and service providers and awards contracts to those
organisations that can meet the Council's requirements and
standards. Contracts can range from small, one-off purchases up to
multi-million pound service contracts lasting several years.
In these pages you will find the information you need to
get started in doing business with us:

The Council although having well-established procedures for
offering work or buying products is always seeking ways to reach
the larger business community and is now commencing a pilot of the
ProContract e Tendering system, in order to make procurement
opportunities more accessible.
These procedures can vary depending on the type of product the
Council is buying as well as its value. For example, contractors
for construction and maintenance type contracts are normally chosen
from an approved list, whereas mainstream services are normally
exposed to selective tendering.
What the Council buys
The Council buys a wide and varied range of products and
services including:
- Goods/Supplies
- Services
- Social Care
- Works
- Commercial and Residential property
- Highway Network
It would not be practical to list everything the Council buys;
as we have thousands of suppliers. Much of what we buy is
transacted through formal contracts. Details of our current
contracts are available to view in the Contracts
Register.
