Home Health

Health care provided by the Children Resource Centres (CRCs).

Health Visitors:

Currently, this is a 0-5 years service.  Every child is visited by a health visitor in the first month after birth and later for immunisation and screening.  The health visitors are able to deliver sessions on nutrition, breast-feeding, baby weighing, developmental checks and child safety.

The health visitors are linked into the Children’s Centres (extended services for 0-5).

School Health Advisors:

School health advisors (formerly called school nurses) endeavour to spend half a day in each of their schools as part of their weekly routine.  In addition to this, more time will be dedicated to schools with the following:

  • Drop in clinics for secondary schools
  • Health education across primary and secondary
  • Meetings with SENCO/Education Welfare Officers and other coordinators as required
  • Responding to requests from parents
  • Monitoring particular children
  • Care plans/protocols
  • Staff training
  • Immunisations

Some schools require more input than others depending on the need.  Each school has a named school nurse.

Child and family health centre team:

This team provides services for all children:

  • Under 5’s
  • Provide a new birth visit by a health visitor
  • Advice and support on breastfeeding
  • Childhood immunisations
  • Health promotions
  • Developmental screening pre school
  • Goes to school at 5:
  • Provides screening and services
  • Drop in clinics
  • Coordinator of core planning for children with medical issues
  • Support and advice to children, parents and school staff

The team also works with other statutory and voluntary agencies.
