Help to self fund your care
If you are thinking of buying your own care and support - this
is called self-funding.
If we can't help in contributing towards your care service, you
are still entitled to help and advice in working out your needs and
finding the right service.

What is a self funder?
You may be called a self funder if you can meet the full costs
of your care services without any financial help from the
Council.
These services usually relate to
residential care but can
include support to live independently at home.
Why am I called a self funder?
We can only make a contribution to the cost of your
care service if:
- we have assessed you as being eligible for social care
services
- you have had a financial assessment and been assessed as enable
to pay the full cost of your care.
If you have more than £23,000 in savings or your
income covers the cost of your care, then you will have to pay
for the full cost of the care service.
What help can I get as a self funder?
There are a number of ways we can help you.
- we can provide you with an assessment of your needs, which will
help you decide what kind of care will best meet your needs.
- we can give you help and advice about organising your
support.
- we can provide financial support if your savings later drop
below the current savings threshold.
- we can give you details of voluntary organisations
that can provide you will independent advice.
- we can arrange for you to have a welfare benefit check to
ensure you are receiving the full benefit entitlement.
- we can help you deal with any comments or concerns you may
be having with your care provider.
What if I have a complaint about the care I am
receiving?
If your support is provided by the Council, you can use our
complaints form.
If an independent provider provides support, make the
compliant directly to them. If the compliant is not
resolved you can contact the Care Quality Commission.
