Home Charges for care services

This information will help you understand the financial contributions you may have to make towards your care services.

What services do you charge for?Adult social services - residential nursing

There are three types of services for which we make a charge:

  • Care packages – including day care and home care to help you live in your own home
  • Direct payments and personal budgets if you want to control your own services
  • Care homes – residential or nursing care

How much will I have to pay?

You will be asked to fill out a financial assessment form and a Council Officer from the Joint Payments and Benefits/Pension Service Team will visit you in your home to help you complete it.

We will look at your income, spending, savings and benefits you receive and then decide if you need to pay for any of the services you receive, and if so the amount you need to contribute.

If you have more than £23,250 in savings or you don't wish to complete a financial assessment, you will pay the full cost of the service up to a maximum of £350 a week.

Third party top ups

A person who has decided to live in a care home or nursing home can use a third party such as family, friend or charity to help pay for they cost of living where a preferred care home is more expensive than the Council's benchmark fee. This is called third party top up.
